UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) è un ente inglese che si occupa dell'iscrizione alle università o i colleges nel Regno Unito.
Se l'anno prossimo vi diplomate e volete subito iniziare l'università in UK, Ucas è la risposta a tante vostre domande.
Per potervi iscrivere all'anno accademico 2014/15 dovrete inoltrare la vostra domanda entro il 15 gennaio 2014. Se non fate in tempo potrete sempre inviare la vostra iscrizione tramite Ucas ma le università alla quale farete domanda potrebbero non prendervi in considerazione.
Andate sul sito dell'Ucas e poi su "Apply", dovrete registrarvi al sito inserendo tutti i dati che richiede.
Una volta registrati potrete continuare la vostra iscrizione all'università; fondamentalmente ciò che vi serve oltre ai vostri dati e ad un documento valido sono: una referenza e una lettera di presentazione.
Referenza: deve essere una persone che vi conosce scolasticamente, non può referenziarvi un vostro parente o amico. Indirizzatevi verso un/a professore/ssa. Dovrà puntualizzare il vostro livello scolastico e perché no dire anche che persona siete (estroversa/o, amichevole, ecc).
Lettera di presentazione: questa tocca a voi scriverla. Dovete in qualche modo descrivervi inserendo anche gli studi che avete fatto, se avete preso un anno sabbatico (dove siete stati, cosa avete fatto, se avete lavorato, in cosa siete migliorati, ecc). Raccontate, in base alla facoltà che andate a scegliere, se avete avuto particolari ruoli. Ad esempio se vi iscrivete in Musica raccontate le vostre esperienze, soprattutto se avete giocato un ruolo di rilievo.
Non potete superare 4.000 parole (e non superare neanche 47 righe).
Chiudete il "personal statement" con una nota positiva, mostrate interesse nel corso che avete scelto.
Ricordatevi però al di là di tutto di scrivere con la vostra mente, non copiate da altri personal statements (che potrete trovare in giro nel web). Fatevi aiutare da amici o parenti e ricordatevi che è la vostra presentazione e che deve essere convincente! ;)
Adesso scegliete l'università; avrete la possibilità di scegliere da 1 a 5 università o corsi.
Mi spiego meglio: potete decidere di scegliere 5 università differenti e il corso che volete fare. Oppure scegliere la stessa università e cambiare più corsi.
Io vi consiglio di iniziare già da adesso a vedere quali università vi interessano di più e in quale facoltà volete iscrivervi, così non avrete problemi di indecisione al momento dell'application :)
Se avete tutto pronto, non vi resta che inviare l'application!
Ucas vi chiederà un pagamento di 12£ se scegliete un solo corso in una sola università. Mentre pagherete 23£ da 2 a 5 scelte. Dovrete pagare con una carta di credito o debito e potrete passare al pagamento quando tutte le sezioni dell'applicaiton sono complete.
Nota importante: se dovete iscrivervi in medicina, veterinaria e per l'iscrizione a tutti i corsi delle Uni di Oxford e Cambridge, la scadenza per l'applicaiton è il 15 ottobre (2013 per l'a.a 2014/15)
Per i corsi di arte e design la scadenza è il 24 marzo (2014 per l'a.a 2014/15)
Per tutti gli altri corsi e università la scadenza, come accennavo sopra, è il 15 gennaio.
Naturalmente ogni università vi richiederà un documento che certifichi il vostro livello di inglese (che sia IELTS o TOEFL). I punteggi richiesti variano in base all'università e al corso.
Se manca questo documento e l'università è interessata a voi vi sarà inviata una "conditional offer". Non appena farete l'esame, raggiungendo il punteggio che richiedono, l'offerta si modificherà in "unconditional".

UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is an organisation responsible for managing applications to higher education courses in the UK, (Colleges and Universities).
If you are thinking about applying to a British University, then Ucas is the answer to your questions.
To be accepted for the academic year 2014/15 you should apply before 15th of January 2014.
If you are a late applicant, don't worry. You can send the application even if it is not sure that the universities will consider you.
So, go into Ucas website and click on the "Apply" button. You will have to register yourself adding all the information they ask.
Once you have registered you can continue your application. What you need are: a reference and a personal statement.
Reference: it has to be a person that knows your scholastic level. You cannot be referenced by a friends or a member of your family.
Personal statement: you have to write it. Here you have to describe yourself, saying which studies you have completed or are going to complete, say if you took a gap year (where you went, what you did, if you have worked, if you improved some skills, etc).
Depending on which course you are going to choose just say something that you have experience. For example, if you apply in Music add your experiences (if you met important musicians or else).
You can write a maximum of 4.000 words and you can't go over 47 lines.
End your statement with a positive note, show interest in the course you have chosen.
Remember that you have to write it with your mind, do not copy other personal statement (that you can easily find around the web). If you want, ask some help to your family or friends.
Just be persuasive!
Now choose the universities and courses. You can make up to 5 choices.
I mean: you can choose more courses in one university or you can either choose five different unis with five different courses.
I suggest you to start looking for your favorite universities asap.
If you have everything ready, send your application!
Ucas has some fees. If you put just one choice you pay 12£. From 2 to 5 choices the fee is 23£.
You must pay with a debit or credit card and you can pay when all the section of the application are completed.
Important notes: if you apply for medicine or veterinary and all the courses of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge you must apply before the 15th of October (2013 for the a.y. 2014/15).
For the courses of art and design the deadline is the 24th of March (2014 for the a.y. 2014/15).
For all the other courses and universities the deadline is the 15th of January (2014 for the a.y. 2014/15).
If your mother language is not english and one or more universities are interested to you, they will ask you to take an english certificate (IELTS or TOEFL)
