AIESEC Join2Lead! Assessment Centre/Interview

Hi folks!

I really feel overwhelmed by uni and all the other activities I am undertaking. But this is the life!
And here we go.. I have just become a member of AIESEC. It's so exciting to be part of this huge family.

But let's start from the beginning!! How did I become a member?
More than a month ago, so at the beginning of September, I sent my application to become a member of Aiesec, through the Join2Lead program, and from that moment my adventure started.
Step by step recruitment and selection process:
- The first step to go through was sending the Join2Lead application through the Aiesec webpage. They ask you a lot of question on why they should take you in consideration and why you want to join aiesec and things like that.
- Second step: if your application passes and is approved you will be invited to the assessment centre and interview. In the middle of September I was informed that I had to go to the assessment centre/interview, by email. Easy, they give you the day in which you have to go to the assessment centre. What you have to do is to confirm your participation by email and just participate!
It was an incredible and funny experience. For those who want to Join2Lead soon, I am going to explain what we did and how it was overall. :)
- Final step: if you pass the assessment centre and interview you will receive an email saying you became a member of X team.

Assessment centre activities and interview
As I said it was a great experience. As soon as the others and I arrived we were allocated in different small groups. With those people you are going to make some activities so recruiters give you few minutes to know each other. :)
1) Activity n° one: the recruiters gave us some papers and pens. They gave all the groups different "objects" (suncream, broken umbrella, pen, etc.) to promote. We had 10 minutes to organise with our teams, to know what to say and how to say it (veeery attractive way!!). After that we had to present our product (it was a suncream and we are in Glasgow!!! Who buys a suncream in Scotland? :D)
2) Activity n° two: stand up and....chat!! We had to ask others something that was unusual about themselves.
And then was the time of the.....energizer!!! A physical exercise during which we had to move our hands and feet in rhythm for 4-5 times, in the same way but faster and faster!
3) Last activity: after the energizer we reunited with our team members and we were given with a paper to read. The exercise: "a boat is on fire, in the lifeboat there is place for just 3 persons. Choose the three persons you want to save from the list". Each person from the list had some particular characteristics and some objects (mirror, knife, fishing line and so on and so forth). Apparently there was no right or wrong answer. We just had to pick up the three we thought were more important to save.

And finally, the interview.
It wasn't scaring at all (so don't worry!) but be prepared to answer!
I was interviewed by a young girl, the questions were like: "why do you want to be part of Aiesec?", "tell me 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses", "you are a team manager, your team doesn't seem to achieve the allocated goals. What would you do to solve the problem?", "are you willing to progress in Aiesec, maybe becoming a team leader?", "how many hours a week can you work with Aiesec?", "in which team would you like to be allocated?" (this means that you will have the chance to know the teams beforehand, let's say for example talent management, outgoing/ingoing exchange, sales, etc. However they will enlighten you about this at the beginning of the assessment).

Ciao ragazzi!! E' un periodo davvero pieno qui tra l'uni e altre attività. Fra queste c'è l'AIESEC.
Oggi vorrei mostrarvi il percorso che bisogna fare per diventare un membro di Aiesec, attraverso Join2Lead.
Per prima cosa bisogna inviare la propria application online attraverso il sito dell'Aiesec (Italia se applicate in Italia).
Se verrà scelta la vostra application tra le tante allora dovrete andare all'assessment centre/inteview. Spieghierò dopo cosa ho fatto lì e com'è stata la mia impressione in generale.
Se verrete selezionati riceverete notizie via email, che vi dirà in quale team siete stati collocati.

Attività fatte all'assessment centre e interview
Per me l'assessment centre/interview è stata una esperienza molto positiva ed anche molto divertente :). Quando siamo arrivati ci hanno diviso in teams e ci hanno dato del tempo per conoscerci l'uno con l'altro.
1) Prima attività: i reclutatori ci hanno dato penne e carta. Ad ogni team hanno assegnato un oggetto da dover promuovere/vendere (crema solare, penna, ombrello rotto, ecc.). Ci hanno dato 10 minuti per organizzarci, quindi per vedere cosa dire e come dirlo (in un modo mooolto attraente!). Dopo abbiamo dovuto presentare in nostro prodotto (quello del mio team era la crema solare. Quasi impossibile da vendere qui in Scozia!! :D).
2) Attività n° due: abbiamo dovuto alzarci e...parlare! Dovevamo chiedere in particolar modo agli altri qualcosa di unusuale/strano della loro vita.
E poi è arrivato il momento dell'"energizer"!! Un esercizio fisico in cui dovevamo muovere mani e piedi a tempo, sempre più veloce e nella stessa identica maniera per 4-5 volte.
3) Ultima attività: siamo tornati nei nostri rispettivi gruppi. Ci hanno dato un foglio da leggere in cui vi era un esercizio che diceva: "una nave sta andando a fuoco, c'è una scialuppa di salvataggio per sole tre persone. Scegli dalla lista le tre persone che vuoi salvare". Ogni persona aveva qualche caratteristica particolare e uno o più oggetti con sé (lenza da pesca, specchio, martello, coltello, ecc.). Non c'è una risposta giusta o sbagliata. In gruppo bisogna scegliere quelli che sembrano più importanti da salvare.

Ed infine è stata la volta dell'interview (o colloquio).
Non è difficile né pauroso (quindi tranquilli!) ma siate preparati a rispondere!
Io sono stata intervistata da una ragazza. Le domande erano tipo: "perché vuoi entrare in Aiesec?", "dimmi 2 punti di forza e 2 debolezze che hai", "sei il team manager, il tuo team non sembra ottenere i risultati sperati. Come agisci?", "vuoi progredire in Aiesec, magari diventando un team leader?", "in che team vuoi essere collocata se vieni selezionata?" (questo vuol dire che vi faranno conoscere quali sono i team, per esempio talent management, outgoing/ingoing exchange, sales, etc. Comunque vi illumineranno su questo all'inizio dell'assessment).
Questi sono solo alcuni esempi :)

Back in Scotland! Ready for the 2nd year at uni!

Il tempo corre, ne sono sicura. Ho appena finito il mio primo anno universitario i primi di maggio, e adesso eccomi dinuovo qui, con settembre che sta quasi finendo (ed ottobre che bussa alla porta), pronta per il secondo anno.
Ho trascorso un'estate abbastanza rilassante in Italia. Quasi sempre soleggiata, quindi ho dovuto visitare spesso le spiaggie vicine :).

Ma...la Scozia!! Ieri gli scozzesi hanno votato nel referendum per l'indipendenza. Le ultime due-tre settimane qui a Glasgow (ma anche nel resto della Scozia credo) sono state frenetiche, con persone che facevano campagna elettorale, chi per il Si chi per il No. Alla fine il No ha vinto. Il Regno Unito è ancora unito verrebbe da dire, ma quanto più di prima?
 Onestamente penso che, se avessero tenuto il referendum in un altro periodo storico, senza la crisi che stiamo ancora vivendo e con annunci meno spaventosi da parte di famose aziende (vedi BoS), il Si avrebbe vinto.
Ma questa è solo una supposizione ragazzi, non sono scozzese, non sono informata sulle discussioni politiche del Regno Unito. Leggo gli articoli di giornali e mi aggiorno su cosa succede, ma nulla di più.

Comunque chiudo la parentesi scozzese, ritorniamo a noi!
Sto pensando a questo nuovo anno accademico...un po' spaventata, un po' emozionata. Nulla è facile, dobbiamo sempre dare il giusto impegno ed il giusto peso a ciò che facciamo, sia questo il lavoro, l'università o la vita personale.
Sono positiva, cercherò di dare il meglio.
E... piani! Non è semplice pianificare. La prossima estate potrebbe essere il momento giusto per fare il Camino de Santiago. O probabilmente non avrò abbastanza tempo perché vorrei partecipare ad un internship nell'Hospitality and Tourism sector. L'estate dura 3 mesi e potrebbe non essere sufficiente per iniziare e portare a termine entrambe le cose.
Ma vedremo come vanno le cose :)

Time is running. I'm sure of that. I finished my first year in early May and now, here I am, September (with October knocking at the door), ready for the second year.
I spent this quite relaxing summer at home in Italy. It was sunny most of the time, so I had to visit the nearby beaches often :).

But...Scotland!! Yesterday they had to vote for the Independence Referendum. The past two-three weeks were so frenetic, with Yes and No people around the city of Glasgow (and I think around any city here in Scotland) doing political campaign. At the end, the No won. United Kingdom is still united we should say, but how much than before?
Honestly, I think that in another historic period, without the crisis we are still living today and with less-scaring announcements of famous companies (see BoS), Yes votes may have won.
I just suppose guys. I am not Scottish, nor am I informed about U.K. political discussions. I do read journal articles and stay up to date with what's on, but nothing more.

I am thinking about this new academic year...a bit scared, a bit excited. Nothing is easy and we should always give the right commitment and weight to what we do, whether it is a job, uni or personal life.
I feel positive, I will try to give my best.
And...plans! It is not easy to plan. Next summer may be the right time to do the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Or perhaps I won't have enough time because I really want to make an internship within the Hospitality and Tourism sector. Summer is 3-month long, and yet it might not be enough to make both things.
But we will see how life goes :)

And sorry for the long absence!!
